About this tool, tips & examples

What it does

The Random Music Generator covers both the naming and the theory side of musical randomness: song titles, album names, and artist names on one hand; BPM values, keys, chord progressions, and drum patterns on the other. Generate up to 1,000 items per run, seeded so a good batch survives.

Common use cases

  • Game development — populate music players, radio stations, and rhythm-game track lists with plausible metadata.
  • Composition prompts — a random key, tempo, and chord progression is a complete songwriting exercise (“write 8 bars in that”).
  • Naming inspiration — song and album title candidates when the track is finished but nameless (presets for titles, artists, and progressions).
  • App fixtures — realistic music metadata for streaming-app prototypes and library UIs.

Settings

  • Type — song titles, album names, artist names, BPM, keys, chord progressions, or drum patterns.
  • How many — 1 to 1,000 items, exportable as text, CSV, or JSON.
  • Seed — the same seed and type regenerate the identical list.

Privacy note

Everything is generated locally in your browser and never uploaded. Names are synthetic constructions — collisions with real songs and artists are possible, so search before releasing under a generated name.

FAQ

Are the chord progressions musically sensible? They draw on common progression patterns, so most play well as writing prompts. Whether a progression works is what the exercise teaches.

What’s a useful way to combine the types? Roll one key + one BPM + one progression with a single seed — a reproducible composition challenge you can share with other musicians.

Band names specifically? The Band Name generator specializes in those, with genre-specific pools; this tool covers the rest of the musical universe.
