What it does
The Classroom Picker chooses students fairly from your class list. Paste names one per line, pick one student or several at once, and enable no-repeats so nobody is called twice before everyone has had a turn. Seeded picks are reproducible — useful when fairness needs to be demonstrable.
Common use cases
- Cold calling — pick the next student to answer, with no-repeats keeping it fair across the lesson.
- Pair share and small groups — draw two or more names at a time (presets cover pairs and small groups).
- Classroom jobs and privileges — line leader, materials monitor, who presents first — settled without arguments.
- Roll-call games — a randomized order through the whole roster.
Settings
- Student names — one per line (commas work too).
- How many — pick a single student or a group in one draw.
- No repeats — a student can’t be picked again within the run; the usual setting for turn-taking.
- Seed — the same seed and list reproduce the same picks, so a contested draw can be re-run in front of the class.
Privacy note
The list stays in your browser — names are never uploaded or logged. Still, prefer first names on shared or projected devices, and remember saved recipes keep settings in the browser’s local storage.
FAQ
Is it really fair? Every name has an equal chance on every draw, and with no-repeats enabled the picker won’t return to a student until the others have been drawn.
Can students verify a pick? Yes — run it seeded and show that the same seed and list always give the same result. Randomness plus receipts.
Can I keep my class list for tomorrow? Save the settings as a recipe — the list is stored only in this browser’s local storage, so it stays on your device.
