About this tool, tips & examples
What it does
The RPG Stat Roller generates ability-score sets by rolling dice per stat: configure how many stats (up to 20), dice per stat (up to 20), die sides (2–100), and a flat modifier. Roll a full character in one click — 3d6 down the line, 4d6-style arrays, or whatever your homebrew demands — with a seed that makes every character sheet reproducible.
Common use cases
- Character creation — a complete stat array in one roll, witnessed by the seed instead of the whole table.
- NPC generation — stat blocks for a village of NPCs in a single batch run.
- Play-by-post games — verifiable rolls: post the seed with the character and anyone can confirm the array.
- Game design — compare stat-generation methods (3d6 vs 4d6 vs 2d6+6) across hundreds of seeded rolls.
Settings
- Number of stats — 6 for the classic array, up to 20.
- Dice per stat / Sides — 3d6 classic, or any combination up to 20d100.
- Modifier — a flat adjustment per stat (−100 to +100), as in 2d6+6 methods.
- Seed — the same seed and settings regenerate the identical array — the honest-rolls receipt.
Privacy note
Rolls happen locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Seeded pseudorandomness — statistically fair, reproducible on purpose, and strictly for games.
FAQ
How do I do “4d6 drop lowest”?
That keep/drop rule lives in the Advanced Dice Roller’s notation
(4d6 drop lowest, rolled 6 times). This tool covers straight
NdS+modifier methods.
What do different methods do to the numbers? 3d6 averages 10.5 per stat with real spread; 2d6+6 compresses toward 13; more dice narrow the bell curve. Roll 100 characters per method and compare — that’s a game-design lesson in one afternoon.
Can players trust a seeded roll? That’s the feature: declare the seed before rolling, and the array is verifiable by anyone afterwards. No more suspiciously heroic stat lines.
